Our History

Hello Boone Bark & Borrow blog readers!

We hope you guys had a great Thanksgiving and start to the holiday season! We have a lot to be thankful for over here. As the holiday seasons approaches were taking some time to reflect. In doing so, we want to give you a little history/background into the start of Boone Bark & Borrow.

We were started right here in Boone by Appalachian State student Amy Ryan. Her love of dogs started early in life. She often says the AKC Registry of Breeds book was the bible in her household. It was constantly studied. She grew up with dogs all around her, as her mom was a dog groomers. Her first shelter dog though, was all hers. In kindergarten she, her mom, and neighbor went to the local shelter and she fell in love with the “girl puppy in the pound.” She begged and begged for the pit bull mix and her parents finally gave in. She grew up with Caillou, a super sweet and loving dog. This gave way to a passion for shelter pets and for ending the stigma around shelter dogs, especially pitbulls.

Fast forward 15 years, our founder headed to school ten hours away sans her dogs. She’s never been without one pet, let alone her three she left at home. She missed her dogs greatly. Knowing the benefits of dogs, she had and idea.

She saw how much being able to play with her friends dogs at school filled the void of being without hers. She knew others must be feeling the same. Plus, she thought, it would absolutely be beneficial. Thus, Boone Bark & Borrow was created!

Based on our success, we can tell we have made a difference in both the loves of people and dogs alike -- and we’re still hoping to expand! Of course, we couldn’t have done it without our users! We hope you have a better insight into our history and start and enjoyed learning about it. We’d love to hear your stories about the beginning of your passion for dogs, so ‘em in! You can email them to bbarkborrow@gmail.com, post on Facebook, or hit up our contact page.
